Speed dropped since Kelly modem swap

Go to solution

Hi Guys,

I had my modem swapped out by Kelly communications on 7th January. Since then my speed has dropped by about half.

According to my test results on Speedtest.net I've dropped from 35/36Mb/s to around 15/16Mb/s.

Anyone got any ideas as to why or if I can do anything about it.

TIA

Can you run the BT Speedtester as that gives additional information but it sounds like your IP Profile needs resetting.

Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I've run the BT speedtester as you suggested. The results are as below...

Download speedachieved during the test was - 3316 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 12000-38716 Kbps .
 Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is -38716 Kbps

Upload speed achieved during the test was - 7105 Kbps
 Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 10000 Kbps

Re: Speed dropped since Kelly modem swap

I've had exactly the same results ONLY since my modem swap out in late December.

Speeds dropped from 38Mb down to 4.5Mb/s

Bt speed tester level test 3 said to contact service provider as it was so slow. But - I had this problem last week and powering the modem off then back on and the speeds returned immediately to 38Mb. So I will monitor this and if it happens again then I'll let BT know and demand a new modem.

I was looking at getting rid of the HH3 side of things and so may also look at replacing this modem too.

Your IP is set to the Max band 38Mbps max theoretical speed. So that's good.

Testing when wired eliminates any wireless issues.

Download speedachieved during the test was - 3316 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 12000-38716 Kbps .
 Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is -38716 Kbps

As suggested do a Modem and Router reboot.... turn off/on.

Runt the speedtest again and see if you've achieved a more sensible speed.

If not I would add the "AFTER REBOOT" results to your thread. And contact the BT forum mods http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951

Asking for help to improve your speed and don't forget to add your threads URL so they can get the backround of all the tests and things you've tried. They are very helpful and will contact you, may take 72hrs or so due workload.

Fingers crossed the reboot will solve it.

I'm very pleased also...... not just for the fact the re-boot fixed your problem.

But you bothered to let us know  Smiley Happy

If you were to mark the thread as solved that will help other people who may have a similar problem.

Btw An occasional turn off of the Modem should be OK...... however not too often in case it causes the Dynamic Line Monitoring equipment to think there is a line problem and reduce your IP and hence speed, in an effort to supply a reliable broadband.

I leave mine on (and the HH3) all the time.

Except for holidays.
