Speed drops off on broadband

Hi,

About 2 months ago I upgraded from ADSLMax to ADSL2+ and have since added BT Vision. I have had the home hub for around 14 months if that makes any difference.

I've noticed when trying to stream video that I get a lot of buffering. This happens when using the computer (wired connection) or through the BT vision box, to the point where it is impossible to stream videos.

If I restart the router, the connection is great for around half an hour then drops.

I've done the test from http://www.speedtester.bt.com/ and have posted that and the router details below.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Chris

Re: Speed drops off on broadband

your noise margin is low and on some lines this causes a problem and like your there are a lot of crc/hec errors.  this will restrict your download speed  check here first this was done by keith to help

noise margin

Re: Speed drops off on broadband

Many thanks, interesting article. The latest reboot seems to have helped so hopefully I have a more stable frequency. The speed has dropped to 20.18 on the hub backing this up. If it continues I will try disconnecting the adsl line rather than rebooting the router.

Many thanks,
Chris

Re: Speed drops off on broadband

the unfortunate thing is it will only last for a short period as it will drop again when the exchange sees your stable connection.  the longer term solution is to get mods to set your noise margin to 6db but can try that later - just see how it goes

Re: Speed drops off on broadband

Thanks again. Still no joy though. Still dropping and the latest speed test, before and after adsl line reconnects, seems to hover at just under 2 Mbps. On to the MODs then.

Cheers,
Chris

Re: Speed drops off on broadband

Many thanks again, was just looking for that and couldn't find it!
Request sent to the MODs for this.

Understood regarding the time. I have contacted the MODs before about switching to ADSL2+ and were very helpful, albeit they must be swamped under!

Cheers,
Chris
