Speedtester says fast, downloading says slow

Hi,

 

I have been having frequent problems both with stability and broadband speed. This week the guys at the exchange have reset my profile again and the connection has been stable, but the speed has been slow. To clarify, I have run speedtester.bt.com, and it says Down: 359kbps, Up: 335kbps, and I have checked the hub manager, which says Downstream 1,984kbps, Upstream 448kbps.

 

Both of these would sugget to me that the speed should be fine (if I'm wrong, please let me know, I'm pretty amateur at this), yet anything I download is still very slow.

 

e.g. Steam downloads at a max of around 60kbps, normally around 220 at good speeds. The Youtube clip I use to test this keeps buffering frequently, while at good speeds it would play through smoothly. iTunes podcasts take at least 3 times as long. Flash upgrade takes around 5 mins.

 

I've had this slowness frequently in the past, but not when all the indicators have said it should be fine. Could anyone suggest what may be causing this, and what could be done to fix it, short of the call centre?

If you post the stats from your router

Navigate to ADSL Settings or use the A-Z at the top right

Click on More Details and then post the results.

 

And post the results from http://speedtester.bt.com/

 

then someone may be able to help.

As an update, it seems I'm still suffering random dropouts, which was solved after restarting and resetting the Hub (v.2), but it's still unacceptable to keep suffering fairly frequent dropouts after over 6 months of trying to get this solved by the call centre.
The engineer has been out and checked all the local equipment (no problems there) and determined that the problem keeps arising at the exchange, I just don't understand why it can't be fixed for good.

Now it's just being silly. A couple of brief dropouts then back to blue, but now my speed has truly plummeted, and the hub says:

I'm sorry, but what kind of useless broadband service is this that keeps dropping out, slowing down, and needs the profile resetting every week? Can anyone tell me how to get this fixed for good?
