Standalone modem settings

Hi

I recently purchased a standalone modem (Zyxel VMG1312-B10A) so i can use my own router

I am on Bt infinity 2 80/20

would anyone know what settings i need to apply to use the modem?  I have been reading around and there are mixed settings people use to connect the modem to bt service and i dont want to use the incorrect settings and then have problems with the internet

If anyone can help i would appreciate it

thanks

Re: Standalone modem settings

I don't know what settings are available on the Zyxel, but they will either work or not work rather than give problems so just try them.

The Zyxel experts are over on Kitz.

Re: Standalone modem settings

Just out of curiosity, as the bt business hubs have modem mode, can they be used for residential internet and be used in modem mode?

Re: Standalone modem settings

Thanks. And will the firmware of the hub still get updated if it’s connected to residential internet?

Also is the settings same as a residential hub like username and password. Will it be just and play?

Re: Standalone modem settings

Clearly the settings will be different, the residential hub is a plug and play modem/ router, you are wanting to use the business hub as a modem. The first thing you would need to do is put it in bridge mode.

PPPoE username and password is a function of the router, not the modem.

Re: Standalone modem settings

Probably not as the firmware updates are sent using the TR-069 protocol and I don't think the BT hub in modem mode would "see" these connections.
