Still stuck at 10.0 SNR Margin after 15 days

Go to solution

I'm still stuck with a 10.0 or thereabouts SNR margin after 15 days up time with no errors. Can anyone help to fix this so I can more closely achieve the target SNR of 6.0db please?

Thanks in advance

Re: Still stuck at 10.0 SNR Margin after 15 days

Hi again,

Update on my problem:

On Tuesday 15th Sep, a lady operative from BT called to say that she was "resetting my line". I checked router stats at 13:50 and noted that SNR was 1.1dB. BTW speed test gave a download speed of 1.81Mbps and an upload speed of 0.38

At 16:15 SNR was 1.1dB with a download speed of 1.58Mbps and an upload speed of 0.38Mbps.

The operative said she would call back this morning (Wednesday 16th) to see how things were.

Checked stats at 09:00. SNR was 0.8dB, download was 0.61Mbps, upload 0.35Mbps.

Checked again at 09.30. SNR was below 0.0 and unable to access web pages.

Called BT Broadband faults, who monitored line and access was restored about 10:30.

Status as of 11:30: SNR 1.1dB, Download 1.81Mbps upload 0.37Mbps.

Although original operative has yet to call back, am happy with current situation.

Thanks to one all for interest in this particular fault.

John F

your noise margin is far to low it should be 6dB your problems are being caused by the low noise margin

As john46 has stated, I think trying to fix your noise margin to 6 dB by disabling DLM is going to cause problems, I remember trying to do this with my previous ISP and my noise margin would just fall from 6 dB to less than 1 dB during the evenings and my router would continually resync. Maybe you could try a higher noise margin of 9 dB or just let DLM do it's thing and try and keep your line stable even if it means your noise margin rises back to 10 dB.

As BT Northern Ireland reset my SNR, I am going to leave things well alone. Currently my download speed is 1.52Mbps and upload is 0.37 Mbps. with an SNR Margin of 1.0dB. Which I'm quite happy with. As you suggest I am just going to let the DLM "do it's own thing" and wait for the line to fully stabilise and see what develops. BTNI are going to ring me next Monday so hopefully things won't go awry before then.

in that case just hope in does not disconnect at night as may well happen with such a low noise margin
