Re: Streaming Movies

Do thinkbroadband first....  then I might be able to setup a proxy somehow so you can remote use my connection but we are getting a bit advanced now.

Sorry, you have VPN so... it is just doing a speed test (your choice of which).  and repeat with VPN tunnel enabled.  Yes your gateway needs a good connection of course or it will be very off due to that

Do you no get the 2 rates? The 1st green one is the pants connection in affect but the yellow is the nice solid secure socket.....

Re: Streaming Movies

Oh I see you're using the old Flash tester. I think I have to be a member of the Thinkbroadband site to run that. I'll sign up.

You're not just on a recruiting drive are you? 😉

Re: Streaming Movies

I like the site along with sams but have never had an affiliation of any kind with either so nope,  not on a drive of any kind 🙂

I think I misunderstood their test anyway now I`ve looked into it, they do 6 downloads so try and max out bandwidth.  My issue has been secure/non ports so this is a wrong test unfortunately 😞  Still is a jolly nice test and no reason why on download shouldn`t max connection

Oh, I see the problem. The yellow one isn't secure socket. It's the HTTP*6 result. This just means it's a multi-threaded download to account for pauses in your download due to a bad network setup, including wrong MTU. and wrong RWIN.

Here's my Flash result 🙂

Re: Streaming Movies

Hi there I finally done a test on thinkbroadband and I was shocked at how bad my results where. Now to be honest I had to carry out the test on my laptop which is needing replaced and was over wifi. The results are well down on what BT advertised. http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results.html?id=141754575893407754432

Could these results be anything to do with my laptop? I don't use it much. I mostly use an ipad, apple tv and games consoles which are wired!

Re: Streaming Movies

Those are indeed really pants results, I`ve never had both multi and single connections bounce around like that. I did get it wrong that thinkbroadband does a secure/insecure test....  however it is still a fact as I can do secure or insecure traffic over nntp but is much harder for me to share said results

I`m on my own roll today of as low as 0mbit upload and 12mbit download with still 18/62 stats (6db)+/- .3 NnR).  OK the 0 is a bit impossible but .001 is more likely

You can not stream with stats like that as I`m sure it warned you on the tester page.

.... and my wait for a technical person to ever call me back continues.  Fully expecting the next cubical guy to call me today and anoother nothing result once more

Re: Streaming Movies

I reset my router and carried out the test again. They came back much better and more in line with what I am expecting.

Hopefully this will give me great streaming quality now.
