Hi.
I watch BBC1 and BBC2 through a Virgin media V6 box and use subtitles extensively.
The 888 appears when V6 box subtitles are switched on, but there is no dialogue for about 10 seconds, that is, no subtitles are being generated.
If there is no dialogue for about 10 seconds the 888 appears and then flashes every 10 seconds. Very distracting.
This also happens during credits and the beginning or end of a program.
Virgin Media say it a a BBC problem:- " This is a BBC problem & the tag being sent out with the programme needs to be blocked. It is not the V6 box producing the display, but the TVs Teletext decoder. On most TVs there is no link to the internal digital tuner from the decoder, which explains why it does not appear on Freeview. On some sets there is still a link via SCART & HDMI as in some countries Teletext services were carried on Satellite until recently. When the BBC can work out how to remove the tag it will stop the TVs decoder from triggering."
Is this true and are you aware of it?
Thanks.
Can I ask why if you have been told by Virgin Media that it is a BBC problem that you post on a BT Broadband forum?
HIya,
I didn't post it in BT broadband, I posted it in
'BT.com & Community feedback & suggestions'
as non of the other forums fitted.
I thought this was the most general.
Which forum do you suggest I post it in?
This is a BT customer forum for BT customers to help each other with issues related to BT products and services. You will need to take your issue up with virgin media or the BBC and it's nothing to do with a BT product or service.
Ok. Thanks.
Hiya
Just FYI.
I got this from BT
It’s still happening.
No estimate of a fix date.
Very low importance.
It’s ok on HD, but HD doesn’t transmit any local programs.
Cheers
Roy
