Sudden spate of ADSL sync drops - related to new BB/Calls package?

I have had stable 7Mb download internet for six months. This week, I have started having multiple sync losses per day. As a result, my connection speed has dropped to 1Mb and I am at a loss to explain why these drops have started happening. The only conincidental thing is that I moved my service to a combined call/BB package which was supposed to complete yesterday and I am still getting dropouts today. In reality, nothing actually changed as before/afterwards I am still on BB Option 3.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Re: Sudden spate of ADSL sync drops - related to new BB/Calls package?

can you post the adsl stats from your router may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1) and run btspeedtester http://speedtester.bt.com and post the results.

are you connected to the NTE5 master or test socket or somewhere else? Do you have any phone extension sockets in your home?

Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

Re: Sudden spate of ADSL sync drops - related to new BB/Calls package?

So, I also notice that my SNR is bouncing around. Assuming a target of 6, my sync speed was looking close to 'optimal' on connection (!). However, last night I was connected at 1Mb down with a SNR of around 21dB.

12:55:32  24 Mar xDSL linestate up (ITU-T G.992.3; downstream: 776 kbit/s, upstream: 492 kbit/s; output Power Down: 17.9 dBm, Up: 11.6 dBm; line Attenuation Down: 43.5 dB, Up: 26.5 dB; snr Margin Down: 7.1 dB, Up: 5.9 dB)

I'm connected the master socket with i-Plate installed.

These are the current stats, although when it connected SNR was 7.1dB, is now 9dB 20 mins later.

Re: Sudden spate of ADSL sync drops - related to new BB/Calls package?

you are on adsl2 992.3 but your speed is very low for your attenuation.

have you tried just connecting to the test socket via filter with no accelerator - might help

Re: Sudden spate of ADSL sync drops - increased noise on line?

I looked up some previous stats (September 2010)

ADSL line status

Downstream        4,544 Kbps

Upstream          1,079 Kbps

ADSL settings

Modulation                    ITU-T G.992.3

Latency type                  Interleaved

Noise margin (Down/Up)        14.5 dB / 5.6 dB

Line attenuation (Down/Up)    40.0 dB / 22.0 dB

Output power (Down/Up)        0.0 dBm / 13.1 dBm

So I was syncing at 4.5Mb with 14.5dB margin. BT then reduced the target back to 6 and I was up to 7.5Mb.

As of today I am syncing at 1.1Mb with around 7.5 dB - so it would definitely suggest that the noise margin on the line has decreased (i.e. noise has increased?) - right?

Re: Sudden spate of ADSL sync drops - increased noise on line?

Almost whilst typing that, my connection dropped! When it reconnected, it has the same speed but the noise margin is massively increased!

Downstream1,144 Kbps
Upstream1,032 Kbps

ADSL settings

VPI/VCI0/38
TypePPPoA
ModulationITU-T G.992.5
Latency typeInterleaved
Noise margin (Down/Up)26.7 dB / 5.9 dB
Line attenuation (Down/Up)42.5 dB / 21.6 dB

Re: Sudden spate of ADSL sync drops - increased noise on line?

there has been a significant change though - exchange has changed you to adsl2+ 992.5.  a step in the right direction.  now if you can maintaina stable connection speed should increase and noise margin drop - may take a few days though.

hope this was due to change to test socket and no accelerator

Re: Sudden spate of ADSL sync drops - increased noise on line?

I hadn't noticed that......what is the difference....could there have been an exchange upgrade or is this just a re-profile?

Noise margin has remained high but line is as unstable as ever. And no, I haven't changed anything - I am still in master socket but with i-Plate.

Re: Sudden spate of ADSL sync drops - increased noise on line?

the difference is that adsl2 992.3 is max 12mb whereas adsl2+ is 992.5 up to 20mb.  so the change has made your line look better quality to the exchange hence you are now 992.5
