can update that a callout charge was NOT applied for the visit of an engineer- the second HH3 that BT sent out DID manage to produce a wireless signal - and as soon as it has been connected it worked fine.
Still don't understand how this problem originally occurred - can only assume that the master socket was somehow to blame...
