Sync'd at 6.4M but download ~0.3M :-(

My broadband connection has been very variable over the last fortnight (see graphs below). Sometime it is ok for a couple of days at the usual 3 -> 5Mbps, but for periods of several days it is unusably slow (sub 500k). These periods coincide with high latency and high proportion of dropped packets. We are curently experiencing one of these periods, and the connection has been unusable all weekend.

 

My router is a Draytek Vigor 2710. Stats are shown below. Note that it is syncing at 6.4M, despite the pitiful download speeds.

 

I've also attached some diagnostic graphs from my SamKnows whitebox showing the variation in speeds.

 

I hope you can offer some suggestions to resolve this issue.

your problem is a low IP profile this has been caused by multiple router disconnections providing you can maintain a stable connection for 3/5 days your IP profile should rise automatically as will your download speed

Have you tried the quiet line test dial 17070 option 2 you should hear no noise if you can hear noise then it needs reporting to BT faults on 151 with no mention of broadband in the call

All I could hear on the quiet line test was barely audible white noise.

 

I understand that frequent disconnects would cause an issue. My question is - why are the disconnects happening and what can be done to stop it?

to start with get rid of the line noise as that certainly can and will cause disconnections
