john46 I don't think it is banded at present just has a noise margin of 15db if it continues to reset then banding will be next
Tested using 17070 with cordless phone both using home extension wiring and direct via the test socket and there is low level but perceptable "white" noise in the background and no hum in both cases.
it would be better if you can borrow a corded phone and check quiet line test just to confirm that not phone causing the noise before you report a phone fault
Tested with corded phone and the noise is still there.
How do I go about reporting a fault? What information are they likely to need from me?
you need to phone 151 and report a phone fault and do not mention broadband just ypou have a noisey phone line
Contacted 151 as you suggested and no fault was discovered on the line but it was agreed to send out an engineer to checlk the phone socket. Engineer arrived this morning and diagnosed a fault with the socket and replaced it.
Line sync dropped as low as 7.9 but has now recovered to 10.4. How long should I expect to wait before peak speed is achieved (somewhere between 16 and 18 based upon previous experience)?
Thanks for your help which is really appreciated.
Stats taken from last occasion yesterday (26 Feb) when router restarted and after the engineers visit:
15:49:13, 26 Feb. (16152.680000) DSL noise margin: 5.90 dB upstream, 15.30 dB downstream
15:49:12, 26 Feb. (16151.660000) DSL line rate: 851 Kbps upstream, 10359 Kbps downstream
Is there any other data that you require?
Just updating after about a week after the engineer replaced the main phone socket.
Latest figures from hub event log are as follows:
|15:48:08, 07 Mar.||(297527.270000) DSL noise margin: 5.90 dB upstream, 0.80 dB downstream|
|15:48:04, 07 Mar.||(297523.240000) DSL line rate: 964 Kbps upstream, 18070 Kbps downstream|
All seems to have settled down.
Thanks for all the helpful advice.
