TP-LINK TD-W9980 on Infinity 2

Go to solution

I want to switch to a TP-LINK TD-W9980 on my Infinity 2 connection to try and get around all the problems with the Home Hub 5.  What settings do I need?

I can see the bthomehub@btinternet.com username on the Home Hub 5 configuration

But there is also a box to check for VLAN ID

Then PPPoE/Dynamic ID/Static ID/Bridge

Those seem to be the only settings unless more in Advanced.

I would appreciate any advice on the settings.

PPoE and VLAN101 are required.

Edit: Will be interested to hear your experience of the 9980, I am considering buying one when we get infinity shortly.

I have posted a message on the TP-Link forum to see if I can get any suggestions on settings.

Only comment so far is that all the leads are ridiculously short.  The lead to the phone line does not matter because I can use the one from the BT Home Hub 5 but the power supply is a nuisance because I like to have the hub on the top shelf above the PC so the WiFi gets around the house OK.

Just the PPPoE login should work - you only need the VLAN ID set if you use BT TV over Infinity.

Hmm, all the reviews I've read indicate that the VLAN needs to be set to 101 for it to work with Infinity

Not on my Cisco 1841.  I only need to set the VLAN ID when I'm using multicast channels on TV.

Maybe all the reviewers had BT TV Smiley Wink

Edit: I have read the same for the ASUS and Billion VDSL routers

If you look on wiki.kitz.co.uk there's a TD-W9980 QuickSetup it says you have to use VLAN 101

There's also a review.
