BT support staff will only be able to support kit that they supply - HomeHubs/YouView boxes/etc. You can't really expect them to support/know of other routers etc. as there are lots of them with their own setup/quirks etc.
That would be like calling e.g. TalkTalk and asking if your HomeHub would work with them!
That being said if you know of something that works which could help other users then fair play to you. 🙂
