I still use my @talk21.com email account and recently I've had to change my password. I can login absolutely fine using the internet browser, but cannot set the account up on my iPhone. Whenever I login to the browser version it says BT Yahoo Mail in the top left hand corner.
I have searched this forum and tried setting the settings to the BTYahoo version:
imap.mail.yahoo.com and smtp.mail.yahoo.com and it keeps stating that it cannot reach the server.
I have double, triple checked the password and email details and they are all correct (especially when I can login using a browser).
Can someone help me locate where I am going wrong in the set up please?
Many thanks

settings should be

Thanks. I have tried this just now and it's come back saying that the username or password for "mail.btinternet.com" is incorrect. But the username and the password are definitely correct because I've just logged into the browser using these.
Have you tried using the format of username.t21@btinternet.com instead of username@talk21.com for your email settings?

Hi, welcome to the forums.
There is no BTYahoo specific server settings, the mail servers are the same for both BTYahoo and BTMail accounts, as well as Talk21 accounts.
How long after changing password did you try the iPhone access? You need to wait at least 20 minutes in order for the password changes to sync.
Try the old password in your iPhone to see if that still works. You could try another password change, making sure that the iPhone is not set to auto-check for emails and wait, say, at least 30 minutes before changing the iPhone password. Note that there might be more than one place in the iPhone app to change the password.
There have been other people with talk21 issues, and as yet there's not really much in the way of exact information to see if one method might work. That method is to use the .t21@btinternet.com version. That means in the mail app, the login name could be [username].t21@btinternet.com where username is the bit before @talk21.com.
However somewhere in the app you need to set the email address as your usual talk21.com address.
Sorry if that sounds a bit complicated, but I'm not sure how this would be done in an iPhone
Hi, yes I have and no success, each and every time it is saying that it cannot connect to the mail server and that the username or password are incorrect (which I know they're not). I changed the password yesterday morning, but I'm able to log into the account via the web browser, but for some reason both my Mac and iPhone it won't set up.
I've tried also using the mail.btinternet.com servers and I've also tried mail.yahoo.com servers and both of them it isn't working.
Hi Andy,
Thanks for your reply. I changed the password yesterday morning. I waited a good few hours before trying to change it on the phone. I ended up deleting the account from the phone and trying to add it as a fresh one. This is where I am running into trouble.
I can log in fine on the browser with the new password, but I have tried it with the old on on the phone and again it's coming up with the same message that it cannot connect to the server and that the username and password is incorrect.
I've just tried setting up a new account using the username.t21 format and it's come up saying "cannot get mail - the username or password for mail.btinternet.com is incorrect."
So the server should definitely be mail.btinternet.com?
Thanks for the info.
The servers have always been mail.btinternet.com
The Yahoo ones, though once used as a temporary measure, should not be used - and may not actually work anyway.
There is simply so many posts regarding access via webmail, but not app/client in this forum - and typically usual btinternet.com email addresses.
The thing to do is to change the password again, there have been times where changing password once somehow didn't sync between webmail access and app/client access.
Again wait at least 20 minutes after changing password before trying the iPhone.
There have been cases where app/client access has suddenly worked after a day or so.
Thanks Andy for the advice, I really appreciate it. I will try this approach and fingers crossed. I will let you know how it goes.
Hi Andy,
I've just tried changing the password and waiting but it's still coming up with the message that it cannot connect to the mail server.
