Terrible Latency

Hi there,

 

We switched to BT a couple of months ago and originally things were great, after a week our HH3 died and we had to get it replaced. Now a month later from that we are now getting shockingly back latency from our service. 

 

While the speed is good the latency is awful, I am working on a wired connection so please do not refer to wireless.

 

Here are the ping results:

 

Pinging www.bbc.net.uk [212.58.244.67] with 32 bytes of data:

And yes, connection problems can cause latency problems.

You should be connecting at about 4832kbs so there must be something affecting your speed.

 

There are some errors which will affect latency to some extent.

 

Which type of master socket do you have?

I have one of the ones at the bottom (the lucky ones) but we had trouble with it a while ago so now just have our HH3 connected directly through the test socket using the ADSL filter.

Have you another router you can try?

Does restarting the home hub make any difference?

I have a D-Link one as well but i've just ran another ping test and its all ok again. I'll try again tonight to see if its a time of night thing as during the week i've had issues but that always tends to be in the evenings.

Try some tests at different times of the day, it would be interesting to see the results.
