but already have phone line with BT. Now with the online ordering pages, is there something to tick (or the like), to say I'm already a BT phone customer (have been forever). Just a bit worried things might go wrong, resulting in me getting bills I shouldn't be or even losing my existing phone number. I currently pay quartely, paperless billing and am paid till next month some time.

If you follow the "I'm an existing Customer" it should give you options.
If you tick that you are already a BT Retail Customer, that is correct. It should ask you for your phone number, then tell you what options are available.
Broadband is a separate product to the phone line. New customers can buy a bundle consisting of phone and broadband.
In your case, you simply want to add broadband so it will not affect your phone number or billing method.
