Trying to connect laptop using intel proset/wireless connection utiity

Go to solution

I have a work laptop that only uses the intel proset/wireless connection utiity to connect to wireless networks. (all other options are disabled by the administrator) When i try to connect to my home wireless network the intel utility runs the "wi-fi protected setup wizard" and generates a password "that identifies this device" it then generates a 8 digit number which it asks me to " enter the device password in the access point or external registrar"

Where do I do this?

The utility doesn't give me the possibility to enter the network password that I have used to succesfully connect all my other devices

I have a HomeHub 4.0 type A

It could be that your laptop is locked down by your employer to prevent it logging onto any networks other than your works one.

Have a look through these links to see if they help and if they don't you may need to contact your works IT manager to see if he can help.

thanks for your prompt reply however my works laptop was able to connect to my previous netgear router and has connected to other wi-fi networks.

my works IT manager says that it is an issue with the BT router because of the higher security WPA-2 and I need to ring BT to ask them to enter the key that the intel proset wirlesss utility generates. Given how long BT takes to respond to a call for support is there any other way I can do this myself?

Is WPS enabled on your hub?

What happens if you turn off WPS on your hub? The documentation suggests that the proset software would then instead ask for your password.
