Re: UPGRADE OF 40MB TO 80MB SPEEDS ?

I dont use a HH3 as BT have sent me 4 now and not one of them work properly, so I use a Netgear WNDR3700.

I've re-booted both the Modem & the router and now get this:-

I've tried to do the BT speed test but that failed on the Results page, so I've tried to re-run it and its says I have to wait another hour to do another test

Any suggestions??

Speedtester diagnostics is broken (I am getting 6 to 9Mbps from it lol), it's only any use for getting your profiles.

Use the beta tester http://www.speedtester.bt.com/beta/speedtest-remote.jsp

I am finding that even speedtest.net is variable, the ping selection doesn't pick the fastest server and it all depends on which server I choose whether I get 40Mbps, 68.5 or anything in between. BT Beta tester gives 70.5 Mbps which is close enough to my profile (72.03) to be accurate, I think.

Re: UPGRADE OF 40MB TO 80MB SPEEDS ?

Was getting the full 38 and 10, quoted 62 and 20 but i'm currently getting 42 and 15 which I do not think was worth the recontract as I could have got a few quid knocked off when renewing in a few months. Anyone know if the is a cooling down period to cancel the re contract?

Re: UPGRADE OF 40MB TO 80MB SPEEDS ?

Three things to check when running speedtests.

1) You are using a wired connection ideally on a gigabit link rather than 100mb/s - wireless connections are unlikely to deliver speeds up to 80mb/s even if they are n. I know in theory they can but in practice they often don't

2) You are using a speed tester that can deliver the speeds the Nameso BB Max at http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/ can (just gave me 79199 kb/s down and 14739 up). Not all speed tests can even speedtest.net is struggling to give me over 10Mb/s uploads.

3) Your PC is reasonably modern and powerful.

Otherwise any results you get are likely to be false and measuring the slowest part of your system

Re: UPGRADE OF 40MB TO 80MB SPEEDS ?

1. Tried it wireless, wired and used the gigabyt port and still same results.
2. Used numerous different speed testers and near enough showing the same

Re: UPGRADE OF 40MB TO 80MB SPEEDS ?

OK my line has been upgraded and as I can see the sync speeds on my Draytek router I know that the cabinet is delivering full speeds. The screen shot below shows the figures. The estimate I was given was 63Mb/s down 20Mb/s up according to the engineer it is just over 300m to the cabinet. As posted above it seems to be working in practice a 1GB test file came down at 8MB/s give or take.
