Upgrading from Infinity 1 to Superfast is it worth it?

Hi I've been sent an offer to upgrade to superfast fibre from Infinity 1 but is it worth it if my line can only take so much speed or doesnt that matter in these days of fiber optics? If not going to gain anymore speed is it worth it?

In order to find out what services and speed range you should be getting, please enter your phone number into this form.
Broadband availability checker

Please remember to edit out your phone number before you post the results.

You cannot get any faster speed than your line can support.

Go on bt page and start an order with your phone number and postcode
After you enter it tou will see a screen with minimum guaranteed speed. If that makes you happy go ahead
Dont bother with the DSL checker as it is not a tool BT uses to commit to you

More bad advise please stop posting this sort of information as it is wrong and misleading

Re: Upgrading from Infinity 1 to Superfast is it worth it?

Why is it wrong exactly?
The dsl checker is the estimated speed but is not the guaranteed speed as such there is no commitment
The only tools that I find effective are the stats of the homehub and the guaranteed speed that are BT official tools and the wholesale speed checker

That other users at the same cabinet get a range of speeds is not really helpful as you don't know if you are within clean or impacted and there is a lot of old copper with junctions, bridge taps etc and even aluminium lines out there

Re: Upgrading from Infinity 1 to Superfast is it worth it?

the interesting thing about the guaranteed speed you keep goin on about is that when you read the T&C and qualifying comments about the guaranteed speed it is not as guaranteed as you think  there is a thread all about the 'guaranteed speed' shown with rhe estimates

the dslhecker is supposed to be realistic, at least that what BT claim, and takes into account simialr connections.  obviously it is based on the assumption all lines are the same and just vary in length

Re: Upgrading from Infinity 1 to Superfast is it worth it?

If you don't get the guaranteed speed you have a defined procedure the service desk must follow which always ends up with a set of checks and at the end of that an open reach engineer

Ultimately when you check on the BT page what speed you can get it gives you the clean high and low and the guaranteed speed

The only information you don't get are the impacted speeds that serve no purpose anyway until you already have the service to make you realise you are in the B class!
So running a check on BT website is more effective as you know the minimum you are going to get and what BT service desk will really use as reference

http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/35296/~/your-line-speed-explained

So if you get an estimate of 58-42 and a minimum of 35 and the real speed it turns out to be 40 you are not likely to get an engineer unless you are a new customer
If in the same situation you get 34 you will get the engineer for sure after some pushing

The fourth person I spoke last time at BT made it pretty clear to me they don't bust the gut too much unless you fail below the minimum as they are concerned of loosing a customer
