after recieving notification that my area is now eligible for BT Infinity I was understandably happy and eager to upgrade my service ASAP. After checking my line and being informed I could get "Up to 69.2Mbps Down and Up to 20Mbps Up" (which is over 23x faster than what I currently recieve) I opted for "Unlimited BT Infinity 2" as it is the same price as the service I get now and all but meets the estimated speed I recieved. After proceeding though, another check is performed:
"Please wait while we check your details
We need to run a few checks to make sure you get the best possible service.
This may take a few moments."
and the result is "Sorry the package you've chosen isn't available. Please choose an option below.", the closest option being "Unlimited BT Infinity 1" which is half the estimated speed, only £3 cheaper, and doesn't waiver the installation cost.
Is there a reason it is unavailable or is it the automated process messing up requiring me to upgrade via other methods?
To note, I also checked my line at http://dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/adslchecker.welcome and https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html (I assume it's the same one, I was just being thorough) to verify and recieved the same information about estimated speeds. http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/WSPAI also lists my exchange's FTTC status as "Available in some areas".
Maybe you can only get the 40/10 package to your home and not the 80/20 package. I can only get the 40/10, so maybe that is your answer but like john46 says, give them a direct ring and see if they can put your order through manually!. 😉
I thought that might be the case but wanted to check first so I'm not paying the £30 activation charge only to find out next week that I could have actually got the better option; I'll give them a ring and see how that goes.
