Upload speed always WAY below Line Profile

Go to solution

I am on Infinity 2 and regularly get 30-36mbps DOWN-load speed - which is to be expected with a Line Profile of 35Mbps (obtained as per instructions on BT wholesale).

The UP-load speed however is NEVER more than 7Mbps - but the Upstream Line Profile is 20Mbps.

Can anyone explain why I am getting only 30% of what I should be getting with uploads?

I am part of the SamKnows broadband monitoring sample and my WhiteBox router reports very constant results: 34Mbps download, 7Mbps upload, 12.5ms Latency, 0% Packet Loss and Good performance on YouTube/NetFlix.

Hi @pwllheli

Thanks for your post and welcome back!

Can you check what your broadband speed estimate is >> here << and post a screenshot of the results?  (Remember to remove any personal info before posting).

Thanks,

Re: Upload speed always WAY below Line Profile

Hi @pwllheli

Thanks for posting the screenshot as requested.

It looks like due to line characteristics the speed you're getting is the fastest speed your line will support.  If you're not using the extra virus protect licences you get with BT Infinity option 2 you're probably better downgrading to BT Infinity option 1 as your line can't support Infinity 2 speeds.

You can chat with our >> billing live chat team << about this.

Cheers,

Robbie

Re: Upload speed always WAY below Line Profile

Many thanks. Very informative.

The Upstream Line Profile does not give a max. possible then.

As regards your very useful suggestion of downgrading to Infinity 1 - is that possible half way through a contract?

I thought that I was tied into that particular package and would not be allowed to downgrade.

Thanks

The Upstream Rate IP profile shown by Further Diagnostics of the BT Speedtester is deceptive on FTTC. It always shows the max. Up speed of the FTTC product you are on, not of your line.

You are actually getting 7 Meg Up sync which is about the best you can expect on that line.

You may be able to as it is obvious that your line couldn't get close to Infinity 1 max speed let alone Infinity 2.

I note that you seem to be on the newish 3dB target noise margin.

Would be interesting to see the results of the BTW speed test further diagnostics.

Thank you @pompey1898 for your interest. Here is the BTWholesale Further Diagnostics result page. It does not seem to add very much to me!

Can you explain your comments regarding the "new" noise factor. It is certainly nothing that I have altered myself. I would appreciate your comments so that I can learn something about the diagnostics. Thanks...
