Usage Monitor Widget

You know what I think would be extremely useful?  Some sort of Widget (Mac OS) or Gadget (Windows Vista / 7) for the usage monitor.  It would save having to navigate through the BT web site every time, the user can input their login details just the once and have it remember them (hopefully in a secure manner) so the meter is effectively 'always on' at the user's desktop.  All this widget needs to do is show the usage, nothing else, so there shouldn't be any chance to enter the account or fiddle with anything important through it, the password would be hidden and encrypted as well.

Anyone up for this?

Thanks for the idea guys! 🙂

I'll pass it onto the project team so they can review this suggestion.

Thx

Lots of pitfalls with that type of access, how to secure both the user's PC widget & the Web Server routines from unauthorized access? Smiley Indifferent

Bearing in mind this will have at least partial access to the user's Account details?

Re: Usage Monitor Widget

Given the time it took for BT to provide any means of monitoring don't hold your breath !!

Is it really so much trouble to manoeuvre to it once a day ?

That doesn't seem to work.

I've tried it a few times, and I've now bookmarked :-

https://www.bt.com/appsyouraccount/secure/cyahub.do

it either requires a login, or goes to the correct area of MyBT.

Re: Usage Monitor Widget

On 2nd September 2010, BT sent me an email saying this:

To help you manage your allowance:

  • We’ll email you when you’re getting close to your monthly usage allowance. To find out more about our policy of fair use, see bt.com/broadbandusagepolicy.
  • From 1 October 2010, we’re launching an online tool to help you monitor your monthly usage and we’ll get in touch with more details.
  • We’ve also increased the monthly usage allowance for BT Total Broadband Option 2 and BT Infinity Option 1 from 20GB to 40GB at no extra cost.

They clearly lied to me to keep me quiet.

Thanks.
