VDSL Dropping every time I download at Line Max

About a 2 months ago I very suddenly lost around 3.5MegaByte/second on my VDSL. Down from 79mbps VDSL Sync to 53mbps. I was a little annoyned with this, but it did not appear to get any worse and I could still consider this usable. (At the exact same time as this I began detecting a new BT HomeHub 5 on WiFi from my neighbour) I mention this incase its relevent to the rest of this post.

Now for the past 2 weeks I've begun completly lossing my VDSL connection every time I download anything, unless I throttle my download manager to 4.5MegaByte/second max. If I do not throttle it, the VDSL will drop upon sustanined max throughput (About 30 seconds @ 6MegaByte/second causes the VDSL to drop)

It always takes 5 minutes before the VDSL returns.

Nothing I've tried has made any difference to this problem and with the exception of the BT OpenReach Modem, I've ruled out everything I can think of.
I have tried two different routers, neither of which provides any insight into the problem as they both just state PPPoE Disconnection in Logs and fail to reconnect for about 5 minutes.

Has anyone hear ever heard of VDSL acting like this?

Could my neighbour getting BT Internet have cause this dropout issue and the drastic speed loss? (30mbps down was lost, along with 9mbps up)
Will BT charge me the call out fee if I contact them about this issue? (Or will they even deal with it?)

Re: VDSL Dropping every time I download at Line Max

Maybe the openreach modem is getting to hot under the heavy load? { HG612's do run warm at the best of times}

Placed rasied mine (unlocked hg612) on some cooling ceramic tiles and even in the warm weather the connection has been rock soild even with this warm humid weather. 🙂

BT should replace a faultly Openreach modem , however it requires a home visit by OR.

{That well know auction site has lots of openreach modems- if time off is not an option ect ect }

I don't think I have a HG612? It says ECI on my modem. (Is this the one?)

I turned the modem off for 40 minutes, leaving it in front of a fan, turned it back on and less than 2 minutes later it dropped the VDSL again. It was very cool to the touch as well. Was this a good way to test if it was dropping due to overheating?

Hmm

ECI's are normally excellent & are very well reguarded on this board.

Might be pointing more towards a line fault  or something causing noise spikes with the disconnects.

The more knowledgeable posters on here will no doubt help once the thread is picked up.

Hi there,

You may have some noise on your line, causing these issues.

Here's what I'd suggest you do.

First off, unscrew and remove your infinity faceplate, so you have access to the hidden "test" socket.

Next, with a corded phone plugged into the test socket, dial 17070 and select option 2; if you have a mute button on your handset, then use this so you don't hear youself breathing down the mic (it has happened! 😮 ) you should not hear any noise or crackles, whatsoever.

If you hear noise or crackles, make a note of the time and re-do the test a few hours later, to see if the noise is still there and report it via 150 as a voice fault on your line. Do not mention anything about broadband or Infinity.

I hope this info helps. 😄

Re: VDSL Dropping every time I download at Line Max

Tested with a Corded BT-brand Phone. Zero noticable noise on the line during Quiet Line test, with the exception of hearing a 2G mobile phone at one point. (Which did not come from my phone as its set to only use 3G)

In case it can help, here's the router log for the drop-outs.
It does not drop if I throttle download managers to around 4MegaByte/second.

Takes less than 60 seconds to drop if I download at 5.2MegaByte/second.

I'm dreading phoning BT up about this which is why I've posted here first, my exerpeinces with ISP Support has always been dreadful. ("Please delete all cookies", "Please try Internet Explorer")
