VPN and webmail

Go to solution

Hi ,

I use webmail and since enabling Nord VPN I am unable to send/receive emails.

I need to disconnect my VPN in order to access emails.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Welcome to this user forum.

The VPN will be presenting an IP address to the BT Servers, which is unlikely to be in the UK, so the connection is being rejected.

You can`t, its down to whichever country the VPN server is located. If you connect to the VPN, then visit the "what is my IP" website, it should tell you which country your VPN is terminating.

It possible that the mail servers are rejecting all traffic that comes via a VPN.

Maybe one of the email experts on this forum can comment?

The best option is simply to disconnect from the VPN, when you want to read your mail.

Re: VPN and webmail

Hi, Keith is right. There is no 100% way to use VPN and access the BT Email servers.

Reason is VPN's use shared IP addresses and a lot of them are used for malicious purposes by other users of the service. So very likely the VPN's IP addresses are blocked.

They are not always blocked but its a trial game to fnd out the VPN which allows you through. This is the same advice if wanting to use the email abroad on clients.

Many thanks for your replies.

I will stick to disabling VPN when accessing emails.

By the way my android phone has no such issues.

Re: VPN and webmail

Surely disconnecting from the vpn to read your email negates the whole purpose of a vpn?
