VPN for wifi hotspots

Apologies as this must have been answered before but I did try searching the forum and couldn't find the answer.

VPN is recommended when using hotspots - is there a specific VPN recommended for BT WIFI hotspots?

If not what VPN do people use?

I don’t think BT has a VPN offer or recommendation.

I currently use ZenMate (http://www.zenmate.co.uk) and have used TunnelBear in the past (http://www.tunnelbear.com). Both seem to work fine and are priced reasonably, switching from one to the other was just a matter of taking a better promotional offer for new customers.

Any description of what that is and whether it's available for other platforms than windows? I mostly use my VPN from my iPhone.

From what I remember, its only  for Windows computers, assuming the file still exists.
