Very poor speeds in the evening

I have recently moved to back to BT having previously having a good experience previously however since getting reconnected my internet is unusable in the evenings. I get 75MB down and 17MB up during the day but in the evenings my speeds drop as low as 1MB. My ping is so high it makes online gaming impossible at 400ms, where as during the day is a respectible ~25ms, we also stream alot of out TV and all we get is buffering in the evenings. I believe this must be a congestion issue owing to the fact that during the day the speeds are actually quicker than the engineer measured line speeds (73MB). I should also point out this is from a wired computer not over wifi.Capture.PNG

Testing for congestion during peak times.

Please can you provide BT Wholesale performance tester  results for different times of the day, including the further diagnostics page.
The last test needs to be done at peak times so the results are stored on the BT server.

Do not do any more tests after that last test, otherwise the results will be lost.

Do not restart the home hub, even though the test page tells you to, as it can affect your connection speed.

These tests  must be done using a computer connected to the home hub, using an Ethernet cable.
Tests taken using a wireless connection, are not accepted, as wireless is subject to interference,

Post the results on the forum, and also include the name of the exchange you are connected to.

You can find which exchange you are connected to, by entering your phone number into this form Broadband availability checker
do not post your phone number on the forum, only the name of your exchange.

BT Wholesale are normally aware of congestion problems, but uploading that final slow speed result, will help.
Also, the BT forum moderators will be able to advise them as well.

When you run the dslchecker also leave the cab number not just the exchange

can you also try speedtest.net and post results with Ethernet cable as btspeedtester has been giving incorrect results for the last few months

I have added the screenshot from ADSL checker, I will collect speedtests throughout the day tomorrow and post them tomorrow.

Hi @atomfire, I can see that exchange has a few congested links. I have done some digging and found work was carried out overnight last night to stop the congestion. So are you able to see if you have the same problem the next few evenings? It does vary by a few meg depending what server it uses for testing but it's night and day (no pun intended) to the speeds I get in the evening.

The BT speedtest seems to be a bit optomistic tonight, however speedtest:

and logs are showing 73.52 Mb / s at 8:30pm which is basically the profile for the line so it looks like the issues have been resolves thanks!
