Very slow download speed after 1 month of 8-9mb Download

Hi,

We have moved address in the last 2 months, until the past few days the BT broadband has been quite decent considering this town generally seems to have poor internet speeds. (8-9 meg download and 0.8 - 0.9 meg upload). However for the past week our download speed has dropped to around 1-2mb and the upload speed is the same. We are also getting a lot of disconnects. Please help and advise - I am cabled into the router and have a high spec PC (using BT unlimited broadband, the best package and mainly using broadband for gaming, hence why this is very frustrating. Also any ideas why this should happen now, rather than when we just moved into the address?! Further details available upon request.

Thanks in advance

Sam

Re: Very slow download speed after 1 month of 8-9mb Download

Hi Welcome to the forums

Here are some help pages done by CL Keith http://forumhelp.dyndns.org/speed/Speed.html

also post your full hub stats by entering 192.168.1.254 into your web browser address bar and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1

Can you also post the full results from BT Speedtest speedtester.bt.com

Have you tried connecting to the test socket at the rear of the master socket    Test Socket.jpg

Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal

Re: Very slow download speed after 1 month of 8-9mb Download

i am suspecting an internal wiring problem and the results from the test socket is the only way of telling if you had to call an engineer out and no fault was found at the test socket it would be a chargeable visit and could cost you 130.00
