Weak Security

Go to solution

I have been with BT broadband for a long time and still have a Home Hub 3. I have an iPad. I am now getting a “weak security” message. I am now unable to connect into my Bt home broadband. I can connect into a local Bt Wi-fi hotspot, but that is an open connection so there is no security at all. I have seen on other forums/boards that:-

1 BT do not consider that their WPA2 security is an issue,

2 BT do not have WPA3 on their home or smart hubs, and therefore I cannot upgrade the security on my router,

3. apparently the weak security signal is not supposed to affect my ability to connect, but in practice I am unable to connect to my home Wi-fi. I have tried closing the iPad, forgetting the network and then reconnecting, but nothing works. I don’t really want to leave BT broadband but if BT cannot provide a router to which my iPad connects I have no choice.

4. I am not having a problem connecting to the Wi-fi with my other home devices such as kindle, tv, phone etc. It is just the iPad.

Anybody know any workaround so that my iPad can connect even though my iPad doesn’t like the security.

Re: Weak Security

You could try two things:

Firstly, ret restarting your iPad. When done, you could also restart your Hub.

Secondly, if the first check doesn't work, reset your Network Settings. Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, so be sure you remember them!

Thanks for your suggestions but neither has worked.  Kind regards

Where are you getting the message? I use an iPad on a smart hub 2 and get no warning about security.

The message appears in the Wi-fi connections settings. It started appearing since I updated software to iOS 14. Does the smart hub 2 support WPA2 (AES) / WPA 3 security protocol?

Have you seen this thread, it might be the cause of your issue. https://community.bt.com/t5/Home-setup-Wi-Fi-network/Private-Address-MAC-Randomisation-IOS14-Apple-d...

I would be very surprised if any ISP supplied router supports WPA3.

Many thanks.  That seems to explain the issue and I now have Wi-fi access.  Thanks
