Webmail folders different from those in Outlook and Thunderbird

Go to solution

My BT webmail folders  do not match the ones in both Outlook and Thunderbird.

I cannot get them to match up and sync.

I have tried reinstalling Outlook, and have installed Thunderbird to see if the problem is with Outlook. It isn't. The same folder list shows in both programs, and is totally different to the folder list using webmail.

I have another email account from my own domain and that has no problem synching webmail and outlook.

Logic would say the the problem is with BT and after a long (and futile) call to BT Helpdesk a "technical person" told me that the problem was definitely Microsoft's and not BT's.

I gave checked and double checked the server settings in both Outlook and Thunderbird.

IMAP   Incoming Mail Server: mail.btinternet.com  Port: 993  SSL Encryption: Enabled

There are two different STMP settings  shown on various setup advice pages, which does not Help.

Outgoing Mail Server: mail.btinternet.com Port: 465 SSL Encryption: Enabled

2  Outgoing Mail Server: mail.btinternet.com   Port: 587 STARTTLS  Encryption: Enabled

The fist one does not work with Outlook, the second does.

Can any help with this sorry state of affairs?

Many thanks.

This works for me in Outlook 2016

Also check in Outlook that you have subscribed to the required IMAP folders - right click on the BT account in Folder View and click "IMAP Folders" - Click Query

Thank you for your reply. I already have the outgoing mail requires authentication ticked.  There is no option to enable IMAP folders, it is greyed out.

I appreciate your trying.

If IMAP folders is not enabled in Outlook are you sure you are using IMAP and not POP?

I reinstalled the lot and lo and behold the IMAP folders are now accessible.  Subscribed to the necessary and everything is now there.
I am very grateful to you for your assistance.

Thank you
