Re: Webpages not loading generally slow

yup ... a star studded server that doesn't acknowledge ICMP requests .... not unusual.

Re: Webpages not loading generally slow

Reading this topic I think I'm experiancing the same problem. Looks like packet loss, a error on BT's side.

The path between your network and our system supports an MTU of at least 1500 bytes, and the path between our system and your network has an MTU of 1492 bytes. The path MTU bottleneck that fails to properly report the ICMP "too big" is between 213.120.156.17 and *. The path between our system and your network does not appear to report properly when the sender needs to fragment traffic.

I live in the Worksop area and the infinity service is not good at all right now.

Seems this is happening to many others around the area.

Download speeds are fine but pages won't load without several refreshes or not at all.

Yes, same here a few miles down the road (A614). And it's getting to be a pain!

Re: Webpages not loading generally slow

I've just ran a test http://n3.netalyzr.icsi.berkeley.edu/, and I am getting this result back, should I be concerend:-

Your ISP's DNS server returns IP addresses even for domain names which should not resolve. Instead of an error, the DNS server returns an address of 92.242.132.15, which resolves to unallocated.barefruit.co.uk. You can inspect the resulting HTML content here.

There are several possible explanations for this behavior. The most likely cause is that the ISP is attempting to profit from customer's typos by presenting advertisements in response to bad requests, but it could also be due to an error or misconfiguration in the DNS server.

The big problem with this behavior is that it can potentially break any network application which relies on DNS properly returning an error when a name does not exist.

The following lists your DNS server's behavior in more detail.

  • www.{random}.com is mapped to 92.242.132.15.
  • www.{random}.org is mapped to 92.242.132.15.
  • fubar.{random}.com is mapped to 92.242.132.15.
  • www.yahoo.cmo [sic] is mapped to 92.242.132.15.
  • nxdomain.{random}.netalyzr.icsi.berkeley.edu is mapped to 92.242.132.15.

I also get the same MTU 1492 and not 1500 as above?. Why,is this a problem?. How do you fix this?.

Re: Webpages not loading generally slow

I don't believe having an mtu of 1492 would cause slow browsing, I use that mtu value on my netgear and on my pc and laptop and haven't got any issues with web browsing.
