Re: Webpages not loading generally slow

same issue here, crops up every few weeks for me if im honest, usually late at night, most of the time it's fine again the next morning but not this time.

twitter and battleclinic are permanently loading for me, had problems getting on arma 2 servers last night.

I'm noticing a lot of the time opera is saying "request queued for sending to apis.google.com"

edit - I'm in the glossop area, just over the pennines from sheffield where others have reported problems

Re: Webpages not loading generally slow

In Rotherham, connected to Wickersley exchange. I've been seeing the same issues that pretty much everyone else has for the last 2-3 days. Download speeds are excellent, better in the last week if anything. I can even play Diablo 3 with no issues. But web browsing is terrible. I have a PC, iPod, Nexus 7 and its the same across all of them. As other people have said it's also something that I have seen from time to time over the last 3 or 4 weeks but this time its much worse and not going away.

Almost straight away it seemed like a packet loss problem so I have been running tests using a free version of a program called PingPlotter. I have it set up to trace 100 times, with a delay of 1 second and to include 100 samples (the boxes in the bottom left)

Here's a few results from that.

My reading of the above is that packets leave my house progress through the first 5 hops quite happily and very quickly. So there is nothing wrong with the equipment or line in my house.

Hop 6 is nothing to worry about it just doesn't respond to the pings so its always 100% loss.

The real problem seems to start at hops 7 and 8 the IP address of these hops also changes as packets take slightly different routes on the BT network. Anything from 10-30% of all packets get lost at this point. This is why we see very poor browsing, requests to websites are just lost and it takes a while for the browser to realise this and ask for them again, even then there is a chance that the new request will also be lost.

Once there is a hop with any packet loss the stats for the hops afterwards are basically meaning less.

So I'm seeing this as a problem with broken/dying BT router/switch, seemingly in the local(ish) area.

Its something that BT should be aware of, they will have devices that check for packet loss and other networking problems. But what can we do to make them more aware of it?

Can other people post pingplotter results, tracert isn't really that great for picking up packet loss properly because it sends too few packets.

Re: Webpages not loading generally slow

Hi Phyz,

My connection was bad for 2-3 days Yesterday it cleared & in the Serice Status box at the top this appered

Intermittant Broadband Connection in Some parts of North & Mid UK

More details

Time resolved: Fri 09/11/2012 at 23:27

Dialling codes affected: 01244, 01246, 01709, 01978, 01142, 01909, 01636, 01302
We have fixed the problem in the North & Mid UK, so your broadband should now be working. If it isn't, try restarting your modem or router.

Seems it should have been fixed, will Download PingPlotter and see what I get

Re: Webpages not loading generally slow

Didn't clear until this afternoon for me but I'm seeing the same thing now. I did actually lose my connection briefly so maybe that was when it was resolved around here.

Ran some tests to the same websites that were having problems before and there are no packets being lost anymore. Loaded up a few websites and they are loading up quickly and work as they should.

Which service status page did you see that on? I've only ever found one for business not a residential one. Although it was on the business page too.

Re: Webpages not loading generally slow

Im a relatively new Infinity customer (less than 1 week) in Amersham.

I've started seeing this issue in the last day or so.

Line generally working around 30/15 to 40/15 speeds but yesterday started seeing pages failing to load, or then load very slowly, or then load with missing images.

No change to lights on HH3 and if you try again a minute or so later, it will be fine.

Are we reaching the point where this is some underlying issue with Infinity?
