It's unfortunate that your suggestion is the only way of checking.
I would have thought that BT (Openreach) would want to promote the fact that they are improving their service to customers or am I being too optimistic?
Just as an update on this thread. I have ordered BT Infinity today, for My Mum and Dad's home in Welton, and it will be installed on the 26th of this month. Apparently it has just been switched on. Hope you can get it as well.
