Not sure if this belongs here:
I have recently taken possession of the above NAS device - it has an Icecast app on it - I am able to add my music to it and stream - but can’t get it to stream outside of my own property! What do I need to do to make it stream externally on the internet, so I can listen outside of home? The stream can be found at
http://192.168.1.92:8000/artysparty.m3u
but is seemingly unavailable outside of my network!
As it's a WD product it maybe better to ask the WD Community.
Already have - they’re taking their time getting back to me! I just need to know how to forward ports so it works - they aren’t so sure!
Two things.
First one is easy, you need to forward port 8000 (http://192.168.1.254/firewall.htm, click Create A New Port Forwarding Rule) and enter 8000 into every one of the port nimber boxes (all 4), give the rule a name and associate the device.
Second one is a little bit more awkward, you need a fixed reference (DNS name or IP address). The problem is that the 192 IP address isn't public, the public address changes (try typing 'whats my ip' into Google for your public IP address). This is where DDNS comes in (Google 'Free DDNS'), this gives you a fixed name even when your IP address changes.
So, for example, say you signed up for a free DDNS service with the selected name of MyMusicServer, you would type MyMusicServer:8000 into the address bar of your browser
It should tell you somewhere in the help menu.
I assume you have created a cloud account with WD for remote usage?
