3. Enter your name, full BT email address and password. Tick "Remember password" if you dont want to enter it each time you open your email
Trying to keep abreast of all the problems that are surfacing, forewarned is forearmed and all that, am I right to assume that will have to be NAME AT btinternet.com even if one is registered as btopenworld.com?
Well, it would seem from some posts today that the username remains as "Name" without the @bt.....com part. That's the way mine is set up and it works fine, but I am not migrated yet.

@blimey, what a mess! Thanks. But I'm not sure what you mean. Do you really mean re-configuring a client in IMAP accepts just the bit before the @ ? As in "How do I get Thunderbird ready for the change to BT Mail?"
I'm not migrated yet either, but trying to prepare the way for minimum disruption.....
from same BT "Help" page (How do I get Thunderbird ready for the change to BT Mail?)
By doing this now, it means that when we move you across to BT Mail in the coming weeks there shouldn’t be any interruption to viewing your emails in your email program.

I am also not migrated yet but I only enter the first part of my email address without the @btinternet.com on the various email clients that I use. This is in POP accounts.
Thanks gg. So it looks like BT are giving incomplete/wrong information
It's perplexing. Why does BT's T/bird settings screenshot show "Email address" in paragraph 3 here?

That's pretty specific. Yet the BT servers (Yahoo?.... Critical Path?...) accept just the name

That's the link to which I've been referring all along.
Sorry, I never picked up it was the same link that you had posted in your first message and our other messages crossed.
I don't know why/if BT have it wrong as I have not been migrated yet. It may be that for what ever reason, when you are migrated you will need to enter the full email address, but I doubt it.
I will keep things the way they are and if there is a problem, then I will add the full email address.

Hi.
@Currently (non transferred), you can use name, or name @ either of them - hence 3 ways, and all work with IMAP.
I would expect the same to exist after transfer ...
However, I don't actually agree with the article for Thunderbird - I use SSL/TLS rather than STARTTLS - hence port 993 rather than 143.
Again I need to check after transfer
The server incoming and outgoing settings in the link for Thunderbird are also not what BT recommend are the settings for IMAP in this link
http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/44917/kw/bt%20mail/c/346,6588,6591
I would personally go with the settings in the above link and ignore the ones in the Thunderbird link unless you find that they don't work when you are migrated.
