Re: What is BT Sport Extra 1 ?

Pure speculation but I would hope it would allow BT to broadcast a fourth live stream which currently occurs ocasionally on the BT app/on-line (the current digital exclusives) - it is certainly needed as currently Tennis for example is often extensively covered in Mid week only not to be shown live at weekends when football/rugby/motor sports are shown at prime-time. Also many of the BT european soccer leagues have matches that overlap timings.

Under this speculation, I would prefer this stream to be through the TV, not online.

Stew

Thats my point --- there is already an extra stream online - the OFCOM license would allow them to have one via the TV. The existing digital exclusive on line extra live broadcasts are generally so poorly advertised and often differcult to find on the website/app that they probably get little audience.

Re: What is BT Sport Extra 1 ?

Interesting. BT Sport Extra 1 appears in the list of cable, satellite and IP licences (TLCS licences) and not the DTT licences.

Possibly it's just for the existing web player extra live stream and is nothing new? Or possibly a new extra channel is planned on Sky/Virgin/BTTV(multicast) in future?

BT still have to reveal how they are going to make some of the Champions League matches free-to-view, as they agreed as part of the contract for the rights. Maybe they will be shown on a BT Sport Extra channel? Tough if you haven't got Sky, Virgin or BTTV! Smiley LOL

Re: What is BT Sport Extra 1 ?

Looking at the complete OFcom list I believe BT now has TLCS licenses (under the BT or ESPN brands) for

BT Sport 1

BT Sport 2

BT Sport Extra 1

BT Sport Digital

ESPN

BT TV Preview

plus one for the BT Vision EPG

Re: What is BT Sport Extra 1 ?

Yes and if you look at the details for BTSportDigital the licensee is actually ESPN Ltd.

Not sure but I would assume that applies to the separate ESPN.co.uk Digital on-line content?

Re: What is BT Sport Extra 1 ?

For DTT they have,

BTSport1

BTSport2

BTSportPreview

BTSportSample

I think the first three relate to channels 58, 59 and the now defunct 57 (well it's currently QVC shopping or something like that now).

What does BTSportSample relate to? Was it set up to cover the unencrypted free launch night and free weekends they have done in the past, or is it a new thing? Could that separate licence be required to show certain unencrypted free-to-air Champs League games on DTT channel 58 or 59? Would they need a separate licence for that? Or will they have just one new BTSportSample DTT channel in future? Who knows? Smiley Indifferent

A pity the Ofcom site doesn't give the start date for the licences so you could work out what is what.
