What is the point of the stay fast guarantee?

My connection has been rotten with frequent disconnections and slow downs and I'm stuck with it for another year.

So what is the point of this guarantee when BT just keeps moving the goalposts?

Every time my average speeds get lower (which it has gradually done from the start) BT just drop the guaranteed speed.

It is a 50meg contract which started off with a guarantee of 30meg which I had just barely got.

Since then it has dwindled to the point I'm averaging just over 20meg and the guarantee has now dropped to 17meg and this is all based on an ethernet connected device.

So the guarantee is completely meaningless as I could have dumped bt and got out of the contract without penalty had they stuck to the original guarantee.

The guarantee was one of the main reasons I chose BT but it is completely worthless.

On top of this I am paying for a phone line that I can't use due to the non-stop nuisance calls, for which I can only blame bt since we have never given the landline number out to anyone, not even family.

So legally speaking do I have a leg to stand on or is this just another case of a customer being screwed over by some obscure small print that makes promise or guarantee a company makes just fake marketing?

Re: What is the point of the stay fast guarantee?

Shandroid , your nuisance calls are not BT related I would suggest . They are likely to be automated diallers from other companies . I stopped getting calls of that type overnight when I bought a call barring 'phone .
Your callers who are in your directory will get through unhindered either to you or the answering machine .
Callers not in your directory can access you by simply giving their name . At that time you can either accept or reject the call .
If they begin speaking longer than the time to give a name or are playing a recorded message you are not alerted to the call & it is automatically rejected .
I have not looked back since buying it .

Re: What is the point of the stay fast guarantee?

The guarantee is on your connection speed not your download speed. No ISP guarantees download speed

Re: What is the point of the stay fast guarantee?

If you haven’t given out your phone number to anyone, even family, then presumably if the phone rings , it cannot be possibly be anyone  you know, so must be a stranger selling something, or doing a survey , or a scammer, so why do you have a phone plugged in ?,  after all you don’t need to worry it may be someone you know urgently trying to contact you,  as you have never given the number out...so there is a very simple solution to the  non stop nuisance calls you receive ,  unplug your phone

It won't let me attach the screenshots due to size so I'll try to post them later but to me they suggest there shouldn't be any problems

Re: What is the point of the stay fast guarantee?

I'm aware of that but when they talk about download speed ranges and guaranteed download speeds and promises of no slow does at peaks at point if sale I feel it's misleading.

Regardless of the technicalities, that doesn't explain how the guarantee can drop from 30meg at time of sign up to 17meg now.

Re: What is the point of the stay fast guarantee?

more customers on your cabinet will create a bigger crosstalk problem which will result in a drop in conenction speed especially if you were one if the first to be connected to the cabinet

stats and dslchecker results will help

Re: What is the point of the stay fast guarantee?

without going in to too many details, due to a serious illness the phone was connected purely as an easy and quick way for the children to contact emergency services or partner in an emergency.

Even with the ringer turned off, when picking up the phone to show the kids what to do or let them practice there would be a voice at the other end enquiring about a recent accident we haven't had but it has reached the stage where we have had to disconnect the phone.

Whether or not BT are responsible, we had the first junk call within 15 minutes of connecting the phone.W

When on virgin, we still had junk calls but nothing like this.

There is supposed to be some call barring setup after we first complained  that should stop "most" of these calls.
