Which YouView+ Box is Supplied?

Go to solution

Hi,

I'm looking to place an order for BT TV.  I'll be going for the "TV Entertainment" package.

On the webpage all I can find is that it comes with a YouView+ box that can 'Record up to 300 hours'.  I cannot find any reference as to what model the box actually is.

Can anyone confirm what box BT are currently shipping for new customers?

Is it the 2012 Humax DTR-T1000 (review) or the 2014 Humax DTR-T2100 (review)?

Thanks.

Unfortuantely the product page doesn't show a photo of the box, so I can't visually work out whether it is the newer/smaller/faster one or not.

Also I've read the FAQs and they don't mention the model either:

TV Entertainment
RECORD TV + 20 EXTRA CHANNELS
Pause and record with YouView+
Record up to 300 hours ^. You can even set your recordings using your mobile.
Get a second set-top box so you can watch and record in 2 rooms

Can I record with BT TV?
Yes, you can record up to two live programmes at the same time if you have a YouView+ box. If you have a YouView box, you won't be able to record.

How do I get YouView?
All our BT TV packages come with a YouView set-top box. TV Essential and TV Entertainment come with a YouView+ box that records live TV. TV Starter comes with a YouView box that doesn't record.

See

http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/products/bt-tv

currently says

With TV Essential and TV Entertainment, we'll send you the fastest YouView+ box in the UK‡

Look at the legal stuff

tucked in the legal stuff undereTV

‡ Fastest YouView box in the UK

To verify please read the full details

the full details links you to

http://www.broadband.bt.com/fastest-youview/

which describes

The BT T2100 is the fastest YouView+ box on the market as proven by testing

So based upon that "new" customers should expect the T2100.

BT do appear to be supplying the earlier T1000 Youview+ box in some cases when existing BT customers switch to or replace their  BT TV or when people take a second box as part of the Extra box service.

Same thing happened to me, but when I phoned up they refused to upgrade me to the new box. I have since returned the old box. Might have been something to do with me phoning up last summer to get the entertainment took off, but they talked me round to lowering the cost to £5 a month. What I didn't realise is the sales person on the phone also renewed my contract for another 12 months at the same time. Wasn't too happy when I found that out a couple of weeks ago.
