Of course it's a BT Sim issue - this is not in dispute (look at the evidence).
I really hope there is a satisfactory outcome to all this, as I'm not going to let this lie.
In short if the device comes from BT with their stock firmware it is subject to testing before release. If the device was from another networked and unlocked it could still be using their stock firmware. And finally if it is a generic sim free handset then it would be a generic firmware update.
The trial and product teams at BT work hard to make sure that customers get the best user experience, in some instances it is the case that you are in the hands of the handset manufacturers. For example iPhones needed Apple to add the patch to allow Wi-fi calling in 11.3
As BT have said, they can slow down the roll out of stock firmware but no sim free generic firmware.
In regards to sim free packages, BT will ensure that you are able to use the service. What services you get is down to your handset.
Dean, are you saying that this is the final BT response to this issue?
Thanks.
I can’t speak for BT but I don’t get the feeling there is anything else I or the community can do.
I get the impression that sometimes users think BT have some conspiracy to stop customers doing things on the network, without doing a disservice to BT mobile, they are still a small MVNO.
I can’t talk too much about the way trials or testing is done other than when issues are raised or noticed whilst BT may not comment on the forums, the trial team test internally and externally they try and replicate issues and where possible fix them. It’s not in their interest to block updates.
You are more than welcome to post as much as you want, but please keep it to one thread!
Its not uncommon for a company to pass the buck ( including BT) when agent in a contact centre are not kept upto date.
I will go back with your comments from Nokia blaming the BT sim, what firmware version are you running on your device.
"It’s not in their interest to block updates. "... and yet they do (otherwise how do the updates work on the other carriers?)
Regarding what we can do as a community, well, we can stop buying BT products & services, and get the message out to as many people as possible - that would be a start.
Anyway, thanks for your assistance in this matter Dean.
Sorry it is not the response you may have wanted, when I asked for an update it was sent to the product team directly and was not a stock reply from customer services. Having been with BT Mobile before it was opend to the public, I like to think I have an understanding of the limitations of BT Mobile and how the systems work. I can honestly say, they would not knowingly block handset updates on sim free products.
Personally, if was a nokia handset owner and this issue was on my handset I would email the CEO of Nokia include the BT reposnse and lay it with them and see what they say.
