Why do ee want to charge to unlock a s6 when i am putting in a BT Mobile Sim

Go to solution

My EE phoneis coming up to end of 24 month contract on the 4th Jan

I phoned up about cancelling the contract but wanted to use the samsung s6 on BT Mobile as part of there package

They said I could get it unlocked but would have to fill out a form and pay £9

What i do not understand is why they would charge when BT own them so i am using the phone on the same network

BT may own EE but they are ran separately, unlock charges will apply no matter what provider you're moving too, however as you said you're out of contract on January 4th just wait until then, the unlock charge is only applied during contract, you might as well wait and save £9, it's less than 2 weeks or pay it if you're in a rush.

In all honesty you can put a BT sim into a locked EE phone and it will still work. Thats what i've done with my Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and it works wonderfully with voice over 4g and wifi calling so you shouldn't need to worry about it. Smiley Happy

Well rung Bt got the smaller Sim

Worked ok first time was able to swap the sims over until shut the ee account down.

Sim was connected within 5 mins

Just shows if you had not said EE would have charged me to unlock when they already allow BT mobile sims to work in there Mobiles

I think EE are a bit of a Con if they are doing that to others
