Wi Fi been hacked?

I've had excessive data being downloaded since Saturday , our normal usage is about 11GB a month , currently up to 67GB this month and increasing daily. Overseas very unhelpful call centre just advised us to change wi-fi password made no difference. Discovered we are a BT hotspot which the helpfull UK operator stopped, but data still being downloaded. BT trying to solve it but seem unable to find solution at present. Someone is obviously able to access our wi fi or a major technical fault within the system.. Obviously very concerned as to how secure the BT wi fi is, as despite blocking the hotspot changing password still continues. Anyone had similar experience please.

Re: Wi Fi been hacked?

BTwifi does not count against your usage. Do you have Windows 10? Have you turned off the peer to peer sharing of updates?

Re: Wi Fi been hacked?

the hotspot will have no effect on your personal usage the Wi-Fi on your home hub is just as secure as any other router

Re: Wi Fi been hacked?

We have  unlimited broadband but a data allowance of 45GB a month which has obviously been exceeded. Wouldn't have any idea how to download a film but someone obviously accessing it. We have a Applemac but security setting all updated.

Re: Wi Fi been hacked?

Obviously not secure as someone is downloading a lot of data and definitely not us. Only use it for e mails, browsing web pages, don't download anything. Bt has at least accepted this as we use very little normally. The hotspot was obviously being used as data downloading decreased a bit since it was switched off.

Re: Wi Fi been hacked?

Yes we use Safari, got an Applmac, but update it regularly. Think the problem with BT not the computer. Looking back in past lot of other people experienced similar problems.

Re: Wi Fi been hacked?

You could try using Chrome or Firefox for a while and also keep an eye on the Hub usage, at least every day. I had a similar problem but caught it in time. It was when I was on Yosemite. You could have a read at this.
