WiFi calling

Hi,

I am moving an Sony Xperia E5 (2017)  onto BT mobile from another network.

Sony tell me that it may need a BT firmware update to enable WiFi calling.

Does anyone know if that is a) necessary ; b) possible?

cheers

Alan

Re: WiFi calling

you will need to change your network settings to BT and then see if wifi calling activates and works for you

Re: WiFi calling

Hi,

my question is really about what can be done, if anything, if WiFi calling doesnt present as an option if and when I plug in the new SIM.

Sony tell me that the phone itself is capeable of WiFi calling if the specialised network-specific phone firmware is fitted. They suggested that I contact my network of choice to see if any relevent firmware is necessary and if so can be retrofitted.

WiFi Calling is important to me as the BT/EE network signal is too weak for use in my house, whereas Vodaphone is fine. I would prefer to go with BT as I have BT Broadband and Halo so would like to maximise on the economy of scale.

Any advice gratefully received!

cheers

Alan

Re: WiFi calling

It's usually just a case of insert the sim, get connected to the network and then see if you can enable it via the handset menu.

I don't think there's a way to specifically download a BT firmware update onto the phone, so hopefully it will work for you straight away.

Re: WiFi calling

From the net:

Sony Xperia X, XA, X Compact, XZ, XZ Premium:
  1. connect your phone to WiFi.
  2. from the home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  3. tap Settings.
  4. tap More.
  5. tap Wi-Fi Calling.
  6. set the Wi-Fi Calling toggle switch to On.

you can switch Wi-Fi Calling off by switching the toggle to off.

This thread seems to confirm it is a "goer"

Re: WiFi calling

Hi,
The phone is an Xperia E5, not a Xperia 5-II: I believe they are quite differerent phones but I could be wrong.

Re: WiFi calling

Because of the age of the phone (launched with Android 6)  Wi-Fi calling was not baked in to Android at that point and was only present as a network specific addition to the OS.
