Windows 10 - Windows Update unable to connect to internet

Hi all,

I am currently having the same problem. I have tried running Windows 10 Update on two machines both connected to a BT Smart Hub via WiFi. I am on a FTC Fibre Connection.

I have tried tethering one of the machines to use the data connection on my phone (Three) and then Windows Update works fine.

A number of different people have reported similar issues on the web page below:

(I also tried running the Microsoft Windows Update troubleshooter, which did not resolve the issue.)

Is this just something we need to wait for Microsoft to resolve?

I would imagine that it will be resolved with BT and Microsoft working on the issue together.

Bizarre problem, glad someone else has it and can repeat it and solve it using a 4g hot sport.

Can BT look into this ? Causing me no end of problems as cant tether every machine and I have a load that need updating and activating.

Some have reported success by changing there network settings to use the likes of Google or Open DNS rather than their ISP defaults.

Fwiw I'm affected by this but haven't taken any action yet as I assume it will resolve in due course.

Just tried windows update and was still having same problem so I’ve changed dns to google and now everything works

Just to advise customer with Comcast in us are having same issue.spoke to Microsoft support last night. Told me to use Google DNS setting and it has worked for me.

Having exact same issue with windows update since evening of 29th. Wonder what MS did to screw this up. Think it’s having an effect on the store windows 10 app too preventing updates being found or making it a very very slow check. BT needs to get on this pronto and pressurise Microsoft (who seem to be ignoring the issue for now). I cannot download definitions on Defender as downloads stick on 0% and this makes machines insecure. Changing DNS manually is not ideal and won’t be something the masses are going to want to/know how to do. I don’t use a hub as I have my own modem/router but rebooting these to force pick up of a new external IP address and maybe new DNS hasn’t worked

Come on BT. Sounds like Comcast are sorting the issue out from what I read on other forums. Why aren’t you doing the same?

Same problem here, Also some PS games are not connecting.

Yes comcast have sorted this, shame on BT.
