Well still not working through BT DNS this morning. I'm off today so going around all my Windows PC's and going to setup each one to use the Google public DNS settings for anyone who does not know them below:
Be aware.
If you have BT Protect or BT Parental controls active on your account, then changing the DNS servers will result in a message to say you are not using BTs DNS servers, and Internet access will be blocked.
" You are seeing this page because you are using a BT service which requires the use of BT DNS servers and it appears that you are attempting to connect using a DNS server outside of our networks.
Our BT protect and BT parental controls services both require the use of our BT DNS to keep you safe online.
You may have selected a different server in your network settings or installled an application that uses an alternative service"
This is to prevent users circumventing BT Parental controls, and BT Protect.
Yes, fair point, but right now its the easiest solution to get your updates back up and running and then you can always change it back afterwards.
The other pitfall of using Google's DNS is that they do spy on what your doing (anonymously of course so they say)
I have changed to Google DNS as explained and updates are rolling in. Will there be any reason to return to the BT DNS or shall I regard this as the permanent fix?
As mentioned a couple of posts above this, it will bypass BT Parental controls and other security that it offers.
Personally I can live without it as I consider my Windows Updates as far more important to me.
At the end of the day it's BT's failure on all our behalfs that we are having this conversation in the first place.
BT are currently burying thier heads in the sand or just so arrogant that they cannot be bothered to inform us as to what is actually happening to address the issue.
Yesterday I changed my settings to the Google DNS and then obtained all the available updates (including Apps from the store). I then changed back to the default settings. This morning without thinking I checked for updates and it worked perfectly on the default settings. Not sure if what I did forced the Hub to get new settings that resolved the issue or in the 30 minutes yesterday that it took to obtain the updates BT/Microsoft fixed the problem. To much of a coincidence I think!
You seen to be more help than BT, so I changed the DNS as advised on several posts, rebooted, but still does not connect to get updates.
Have I missed something? Any ideas?
BT are just fudging the issue and claiming it's a MS problem.

I have BT Net Protect and I have changed to the Google DNS and can still see the WWW. As this post proves! 🙂
Edit: Though I do not have Parental bit. If you are worried about what your little ones can access. Create an account on OpenDNS and cofigure your router to their DNS. OpenDNS lets you configure what is allowed into your house. Disable BT Parental Control software. (Though your kids could change the DNS on their own devices to Google's DNS and by pass this). 😞
