Wiring for BT8600

Go to solution

Hi All

I'm hoping someone here can help. I have a BT8600 cordless phone/answering machine with two handsets. I need to move the base station further from my master socket so have been looking at 10m BT-RJ11 cables. However, I've found that these cables can be wired in 3 different ways

  1. 2-pin Cross Wired Cable - apparently, the standard modem cable, used for modems / routers but some telephones and other devices do use these too.
  2. 4-pin Straight Wired Cable - used with some telephones and most fax machines.
  3. 4-pin Cross Wired Cable - used for most UK telephones.

This would seem to imply that (3) above is the one I most likely need, but can anyone confirm if this is correct please

Thanks in advance

Phones use only 2 wires and are not polarity conscious. Use a straight wired cable.

@licquorice

Thanks.

As it happens, while looking for something else, I came across a telephone extension cable BT gave me a couple of houses ago to resolve another problem ............. works perfectly.
