I wish to move the very old (20) year's plus master socket to the point of entry into the house urrently it runs into a different room before terminating at the current by master socket. I propose to cut the cable at the point of entry fit a modern master socket then use the existing old cable to feed an extension at the location of the current master Is this feasible and what do I need to purchase

Thanks for acknowledging. My provider is BT and has been since house was built in 1988.

The part you are intending to replace, is the property of Openreach, and you would be liable for the cost of repairing any damage caused, so any advice that may be given by forum members, would be at your own risk.

You could either ask BT to arrange an internal socket move, or find a competent phone technician who is insured against any damage caused to the external network, or exchange equipment.

No, the master socket is the property of Openreach, as its the interface between the external and internal network. Wiring after the test socket belongs to the customer.
