Woolhampton Exchange Performance Issues - moderator please help

Go to solution

Hi All,

As I suspected from original post (knotty issue) we have a network congestion  issue at Woolhamton . @egw21 has seen the same issue in the same time frame.

Quick Summary:

I'm synching at > 11Mb/s but download speeds collapsed in the evening at or around 20/11/17

Logged fault, but fault desk fell back on 1mb/s despite measure download in the evening previously being > 4.5Mb/s streaming. The line has been so good I had given testing and started investing in streaming hardware (appletv) and subscriptions ... fool on me.

However... I got a call from the Indian call centre asking if my fault had been fixed .. NO

Engineer visited 29/11/17 .. Comfirmed  clear line (digital & analogue), but after a call in discovered that I still had capping on my line ( the old capped broadband .. go figure). And for my trouble he doubled my SNR to 6db down , 12 db Up, which took my upload to 888 , and took off fastpath (thanks a lot!). No errors recorded by my router for the next 24Hrs , but download speeds after 3:30pm collapse and by 11:00pm they were below 1Mb/s .. thakfully I got speedtest wholesale to actually accept that number for future reference.

Today (30/11) call back from Indian call centre asking whether things had improved. Answer NO, they will call back tomorrow.

An hour later, link goes down for ~ 60 secs before resyching at 9dB download SNR. That was clearly an intervention , since there were zero errors (ES, SES) prior.

Seems like Openreach think it's a line issue ( not so) rather than a backhaul issue. Perhaps becuase the call back fault said dropped connection (not my fault call remember).

Reminds me of the saying when you only have a hammer every problem looks like a nail.

Thank you for copying me in - moderators please see my earlier email trail.  I am a way from the exchange so realistic in expectations but the drop from nearly 3 mb/s to below 0.5 at times and max 1 in recent weeks has been a disaster.

you need to post btspeedtester results both peak and off peak to show your problem - and it records on wholesale database

Please post your full Router Stats. For a Home Hub see on here: Broadband Top Tips . Full router stats are key to any speed & connection issues.

Re: Woolhampton Exchange Performance Issues - moderator please help

Unfortunately I can't post by screen grabs too large

at 22:31 Wed 29

Download 0.87 , Acceptable Range 4 - 21Mbs , IP Profile 10.65Mbs

Upload 0.68 , IP Profile 0.83

(so logged succesfully)

Which refered to TAP3 testing which I didn't want to do since it resets router stats

Line Synched 11+MBs 888kbs

Off Peak data is 10 + Mbs

BUT to day has been ~ 2 -3 Mbs at quiet periods so clearly something is happening at th exchange

Router stats

Uptime 1hr 23  see early in the thread about Openreach initiated blip to 9db SNR for no reason

The MSO/DSM was happy with 3db , & fastpath before manual intervention on their side.

Re: Woolhampton Exchange Performance Issues - moderator please help

Update

Had another call from the Delhi call centre , and they have escalated and scheduled what I guess is a broadband engineer (as opposed to the linesman that came yesterday)

So while I may be frustrated, at least the support protocol seems to have taken over

If it is congestion it is outside both BT Retail and Openreach's remit it is a BT Wholesale problem which they will be aware of and working on a fix although no timescale will be known
