I have received email for eligibility and also was sent a code for the xbox but when we tried to to claim the code said it has already been used, phoned bt and they said they could see we haven't claimed the xbox and would get back to us after a week, we have had no answer from them

Yes it did, we used the bt chat, to ask when the code would be sent, it was going to be the next day so they sent it to us there and then, we tried to us it and said it had already been used, since then we have not been able to contact bt for obvious reasons

Then the code that live chat sent would be incorrect, as each code is unique and is generated by BT against each order, and then emailed directly from BT, live chat would not know this code as its personal to your account.
If you are a new customer to BT you become eligible for the gift after 14 days have passed but it can take up to 28 days for the email to be sent to you so you can claim your Xbox from the BT Shop. Existing BT customers re-contracting their service become eligible after the 14 days have passed and the Xbox is automatically sent
