Your message looks like SPAM or has been reported as SPAM

Go to solution

This is a common support on the forum I can see, but my problem is, I HAVE reported it to postmaster@btinternet.com but got no reply, and this was back beginning of December. BT chat told me it takes 12 days for them to reply (crazy I know!). Yet that passed ages ago, still no reply.

My customers on my mail server still cant email their customers at BT.

Is there some other official means or form I need to complete? We are not on any blacklists. Received no explanation about why its blocked, and no reply from my original query. Have emailed again today but posting here in case I dont get a reply again, I cant wait 12 days or more again, we have businesses that need to operate and communicate with customers.

Thanks

This is a BT residential customer to customer forum. Other than giving you the advice about contacting the postmaster, which you have already done,  there is nothing any of the forum members  can do to assist you.

At the moment I am tying all channels for support due to the lack of reply. I am not a BT user so dont have access to any business support.

Maybe someone knows something due to the number of support forums about this, so always worth a shot to ask.

@amityweb, I'm really sorry that you haven't had a reply. I've chased this up with our email team who are contacting the postmaster to get your case looked into.

Hi, welcome to the forums.

Are you saying that all of your customers on your mail server who try to email customers on BTinternet are all getting bounce messages reporting as spam?

Can you say what sort of customers you have, and how many emails are they sending in general? Are they 100% certain the recipients actually want the emails? Has this only started in December, and was fine previously? Has anything changed at your end?

Yes thats correct.

My mail server hosts small businesses email accounts. Its not newsletters or spam, although without knowing the cause of the block I cant say for certain a customers has not decided to use some 3rd party software to bulk send emails through the account, I cant know that unless I am told the account in question, and BT should have that info in the spam logs or any spam complaint.

I have had this mail server for many many years, and one of my customers on there has had an email account on there for many years, and she sends emails out to all her customers, many are on BT. We have never had a problem before, and nothing has changed. This customer in particular emails updates about holidays people have booked with her, to do with the itinerary and things, which is obviously very important. I believe she may have bulk emailed them all an update, not in the To box but undisclosed, then all the BT ones bounced back. But its not loads, she is a tour guide so it would be a finite amount on the holiday. This was the first customer it happened to and now everyone on my server cannot email BT, including me.

The customers should be expecting the email updates of course, its for their holiday they booked, and my other customers including me cannot now just email individual emails to people who are expecting them.

But I dont even know if that email was the one that triggered the block as I have been given no explanation. no one has emailed my server abuse email address to report issues or a spam block. So I have no idea what the cause would be, only that my mail server is used for legitimate business communication and not newsletters or spam.

Thanks

Saying all that I just emailed a customer of mine and haven't had a bounce back yet like I did before. One of my customers did yesterday so assumed it was the same issue and we're still blocked. They had this message. Thus customer is a builder/house renovation emailing his customer:

There have been a spate of these over the blocks over the years, and granted BT can block anything they wish of course. It does seem like BT's configuration is very aggressive when compared to virtually all other ISPs and generic mail providers. I personally believe they are not acting correctly.

A simple thing to try, though might be weird to the recipient, is a simple email with no attachments and no embedded links. It's only a test as reports in the past may have shown this causes issues. Naturally it makes you wonder why this happens all of a sudden. I don't believe the Postmaster will give any feedback why the issue has or might occur, I guess for obvious reasons.

I also agree they are too strict because our server is not on any other blacklist.

Got this from postmaster so fingers crossed its fixed! Thank you for the quick reply BT...

"The messages were being blocked as spam by the anti-spam engine.
I have submitted a number of samples to the anti-spam team to fix the filters from today that has fixed the situation. Messages going forward should be fine.

Regards,
Postmaster (Oha)"
