Youview Box T2100 - Keeps losing HD channels

Hi,  I have  a Youview box  DTR T-2100, but for the past 3 weeks it has been losing the HD Channels.

Only noticed when there were some failed recordings so went in and all the HD channels had gone.

Did a full retune and everything fine, then 5 days later the same thing happened.  It has happened about 4 times in last 3 weeks.

The signal is fine when I've checked (97% Quality, 100% Strength).  No other channels have been lost.  TV with Freeview + HD channels have not been affected, only the box seems to be losing them.

The aerial and connections are fine.  Is this happening to anyone else?

I'm at a loss as to why it's happening.  Quite annoying as we only discover it when we go to watch something we've recorded as we don't watch much 'live' TV.  Is my box 'dying'?

Any advice appreciated,  Thanks

Re: Youview Box T2100 - Keeps losing HD channels

Its possibly too much signal, its a common problem. Try an aerial attenuator, and reduce the signal level to about 95%.

100% can in fact mean its actually much higher, and the decoder in the YouView box cannot extract the signal properly on some muxes.

Re: Youview Box T2100 - Keeps losing HD channels

Hi Keith,  thanks for quick reply.

I'll try that but it seems crazy that the signal is now too good and causing a problem.  Like I said, it's only just happened the past few weeks.  I'd have thought it would have been a problem from first install (had it about 2 yrs) unless the transmitter has just gone turbo or something.

I think it's tuned into Emley Moor (we're in Doncaster).

I'll order one from eBay now

Thanks again.  Hopefully my next post will be telling  everyone what a great fix it was.  Cheers

Re: Youview Box T2100 - Keeps losing HD channels

The YouView box, like all digital PVRs, has to extract  an error free signal. To do this, the signal has to be within a certain range to allow accurate decoding and recording.

Too low, and background noise will cause too many errors, and the signal will start to break up, and any recording will be terminated.

Too high, and the decoder will not be able to "see" the changes in digital level, and this will have the same effect

TV receivers have a much wider range, and some automatic level control, to compensate for these variations, as they do not have to worry too much about errors, as they tend to be "hidden" within the displayed picture, and unless there are a lot of errors, they will not be noticed by the viewer.

Hopefully an attenuator will solve your issue, as it has done for many others on this forum. Its possible that the power level on your local transmitter site has been recently increased.

Re: Youview Box T2100 - Keeps losing HD channels

Good explanation, even I understood that!

I ordered one last night and looking at the reviews I was surprised to see how many people had the same problem, lots of quotes of 'Signal too strong'.

Fair to say as I've never had this problem I've not had cause to look into it but thankfully there's always someone who knows the solution;  you've got to love a good forum haven't you.

Thanks

Hi

Did this solve your problem? I’ve been having the same issue for the past 6-8 weeks. Also tuned to Emley Moor funnily enough.

Thanks.

@Richie3

It was marked as solved by @Potwashman , so the answer was yes.

All you can do is to give it a try, as its not  an expensive item.

Hi, it did appear to solve it but started happening again within last 2 weeks.  I just keep adjusting the signal strength to see if it sorts it out.  Bit frustrating really

Looking at

http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/operations/planned_engineering_works

There are  possible service interruptions  listed for Emley Moor

Re: Youview Box T2100 - Keeps losing HD channels

Absolute load of nonsense! I lived at my last address for years and everything was ok but a few months ago the box kept losing most of the HD channels despite repeated re-tuning. Have moved to a new address and guess what the same thing is happening. Basically BT will blame everybody and everything except there own rubbish equipment.
