aluminium cable

Was speaking to a openreach engineer the other day who was working in a pit in b24 i asked if the cable was copper or aluminium cable he replied aluminium .he when went on to say management have said there's no aluminium left in ground ?don't management known what's in there infrastructure

There's definitely large parts of the network that have aluminium cabling.

Due to the sheer vast size of the network, it would be impossible to keep a record of every single cable material/quality/guage etc.

Management say it as a running joke. They know its there. As long as its well maintained, it won't have much more loss on broadband compared to copper.
